UTIITSL's own guidance allows a larger supporting-document file, but this tool keeps the merged Aadhaar PDF at 300 KB on both portals so the download stays small and consistent.

The portals occasionally revise these limits without much notice — cross-check against onlineservices.nsdl.com or pan.utiitsl.com before you submit.

Side by side

NSDL vs UTIITSL requirements

Both portals issue the same PAN card, but the upload rules aren't interchangeable. A file prepared for one will usually be rejected by the other.

Where the pixel counts come from

Centimetres, DPI and pixels explained

Portals quote sizes in centimetres, pixels, or both. They're linked by DPI (dots per inch), and one inch is 2.54 cm.

The formula

pixels = cm ÷ 2.54 × DPI

For example, 3.5 cm at 200 DPI is 3.5 ÷ 2.54 × 200 ≈ 275.6, which rounds to 276 pixels.

NSDL at 200 DPI

2.5 cm (photo width)≈ 197 px
3.5 cm (photo height)≈ 276 px
4.5 cm (signature width)≈ 354 px
2.0 cm (signature height)≈ 157 px

What DPI actually does

DPI is a value stored in the JPEG header. It doesn't change how the picture looks on screen, but portals read it as a check on the intended print size. This tool writes the correct DPI into the file for the portal you select, so you don't have to rely on your camera app.

Do it for you

Meet these specs in a few clicks

Skip the manual maths. These free tools run entirely in your browser — nothing is uploaded.

Before you upload

Quick pre-submission checklist

Run through these once your files are ready.

Right portal selected

NSDL wants a portrait photo; UTIITSL wants a square one.

JPEG format

Renaming a HEIC or PNG file doesn't convert it — export a real JPEG.

File size inside the range

Check the KB value in your file manager before uploading.

Plain white background

No shadows, patterns or other people in the frame.

Signature in dark ink

Black or dark blue on white paper holds up best under compression.

Aadhaar sides both readable

Flat, evenly lit, no glare or shadow across the text.

Quick answers

Specification FAQs

What is the PAN card photo size for NSDL (Protean)?
3.5 cm tall by 2.5 cm wide (portrait), about 197×276 pixels, JPEG, 200 DPI, with a file size between 20 KB and 50 KB.
What is the PAN card signature size for NSDL (Protean)?
4.5 cm wide by 2 cm tall (landscape), about 354×157 pixels, JPEG, 200 DPI, with a file size between 10 KB and 50 KB.
What are the UTIITSL photo and signature requirements?
The photo is a 213×213 pixel square at 300 DPI, under 30 KB. The signature is 400×200 pixels at 600 DPI, under 60 KB. Both are JPEG.
Can I use the same photo for NSDL and UTIITSL?
Not directly. NSDL expects a portrait photo and UTIITSL a square one, and the DPI and file-size limits differ. Switch the portal toggle in the tool and re-crop from your original photo.
Why is my file smaller than the minimum size?
Very plain images, such as flat lighting with little texture, compress further than expected. If the portal rejects the file as too small, retake the photo with a little more natural detail or better light.
Do these specifications ever change?
Occasionally. NSDL and UTIITSL can revise upload rules without much notice, so always confirm the current limits on the official portal before submitting your application.
